Today we are going to talk something that most caregivers either love or hate. Support Groups!
Are you a caregiver that has said, “They’re not for me”? Well you’re not alone.
Most Alzheimer’s caregivers are reluctant to join a support group and many have said that support groups aren’t for them.
But let’s take a moment to talk about what a caregiver support group is and how the support groups at the Alzheimer’s Care Resource Center are different.
As a rule a support group is the bringing together of people who currently share a common denominator or a common life experience. In our case, the common denominator is Alzheimer’s disease.
But for an Alzheimer’s caregiver, the support group they participate in is so vitally important. Alzheimer’s disease and the toll it can take on caregivers can be physically, emotionally and financially devastating.
Throughout the long journey of Alzheimer’s disease, caregivers can and do benefit from attending the right support group. They can simply listen to other caregivers, who just like them, are going through the same thing or who have come out on the other side and can provide good guidance and support. And they can share -– but only when they’re and when feel comfortable doing so.
The Alzheimer’s Care Resource Center offers dozens of caregiver support groups throughout Palm Beach County and our staff will help you find the best support group for you – based on where you are, what you need, and what you’d like. Not all caregiver support groups are the same. Let us help you find the best support group for you.
And for those of you still say, “nope, they’re not for me”, we also provide individual support via our Coaching for Caregivers program. Just you – one on one with one of our professional Care Managers, to help get you through.
