Wednesday Workshop – Making Moments Matter
Hi! Welcome to today’s Wednesday Workshop! Today we’re going to talk about the Alzheimer’s Care Resource Center’s – Making Moments Matter program and how it helps family caregivers, and paid caregivers, reconnect with the person with memory loss.
Making Moments Matter is firmly rooted in our care philosophy that the patients’ distant past, and their personal life story, can serve as today’s key to success in creating a day that brings joy, not sorrow, and one that brings a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment to both the caregiver and the care receiver.
There is no such thing as a perfect day for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and it’s just unfair to ask any caregiver to strive to reach such an unrealistic goal. But caregivers who learn how to utilize our Making Moments Matter program go much further than ever before in truly creating the very best day possible for themselves and the person they care for.
Making Moments Matter covers many facets of memory care and incorporates tried and true techniques that for many years have proven to be successful. When caregivers learn how to make daily activities and caregiving tasks meaningful by incorporating their loved ones life story, past experiences and preferences into the mix, they discover that creating days filled with more joy and less sorry, for themselves and their loved one, can be easier than they thought.
And although nothing can always be failure-free, one of the first concepts that caregivers come to understand is that for many, it will be in the doing of the activity, rather than in the completing of the task that will make all the difference in the world.
