Day in and day out you as a caregiver must take care of another in addition to taking care of yourself. Your life is defined by the need to take care of details. People born during the astrological sign of Virgo (August 23 – September 22) are known for being good at paying attention to details. Thus, it is timely to look at tips for finding balance when it comes to attending to caregiving details and also taking care of yourself.
Mother Teresa, a Virgo, is known for being a model of selfless caregivng. The symbol for Virgo is a virgin carrying a sheaf of wheat, a plant that is harvested at the Virgo time of year. Wheat and grains are plentiful and are used to feed the masses. When living Mother Teresa seemed to have plentiful and inspired energy to care for the masses. When you have days of feeling overwhelmed with caring for another, you might ponder how could she have managed to be so tireless. She was honored as a saint and certainly she was amazing and worth the admiration given to her. There must have been divine energy that kept her going. You, on the other hand, need to have divine good judgment about self-care to keep yourself going.
So then, getting back to the reality for mortal humans, it is important to remember: You don’t need to be a saint. Congratulate yourself for all that you do and remember you need to take breaks so you can keep going. Watch the Wednesday Workshop for August 28, 2013 and you will learn a simple tool to help you calm down when you realize you are over extending and trying too hard. Remember you do want to be able to go the distance, you do need to take care of yourself and you don’t need to be a saint.
