Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Why It’s Important to Make Time to be Alone
Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. When you’re a full-time family caregiver, alone time can seem like a distant old friend. You want to reconnect with that old friend though. You make plans together but some way or another those plans always fall through. As caregivers, we need to stop this cycle of denying ourselves some alone time. Here are the four main reason you need to start making alone time for yourself today!
- Maintain a healthy identity
When we get too attached to someone we start to lose who we are in the process. Maintaining a healthy identity is important for well-being and self-esteem.
- Learn about yourself
It’s easy to figure out what your loved one with memory loss likes and dislikes when you spend so much time together but have you thought about the things you enjoy doing lately? The likely answer is no. When you spend time by yourself, you give yourself the freedom to be genuine to who you really are.
- Recharge instead of burnout
Running yourself into the ground with caregiving tasks is dangerous for both your physical and mental health. It’s important to take some time away from the rush to replenish.
- Be thankful
Alone time gives us a new perspective. We become more grateful for the people around us. We see life through a fresh lens. From experience, missing someone draws a relationship closer.
