Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Ways to Feel Less Stressed Today

Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. The job of a caregiver can definitely be stressful. There are so many appointments to remember, medicines to take and behaviors to combat. With all these responsibilities, you can see how a family caregiver could use some time to themselves to de-stress. Today, we’re here to give you a few ideas on how to feel less stressed right now.

  1. Use essential oils

Essential oils have been used for hundreds of years to ease symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. The best oils for stress relief are lavender, peppermint, rosemary and bergamot. Try using essential oils in a diffuser or add just a few drops of essential oil to your bath.

  1. Get out and exercise

Exercise releases endorphins that can help make caregivers feel better. This doesn’t mean joining a gym – caregivers have precious little time to engage in traveling back and forth – but they may be able to fit in a brisk 10-minute walk while the one being cared for is napping. Even when providing care, caregivers can sneak in a little exercise by gardening or following along with a short exercise video.

  1. Listen to your favorite music

Choose music that energizes and inspires you; listen to your favorite tunes. Sing along as loud as you can if you like. Music helps to improve your mood.

  1. Call a friend

When a stressful event happens and you feel like giving up, who’s better to talk to than your best friend? Talking about and venting your stress to someone you love makes us feel safe and overall better about the situation. Plus, once they realize how stressed out you are, they’ll be sure to make you feel really loved.
