Monday Mojo for Caregivers ~ Overcoming Low Self Esteem in Caregiving

Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Overcoming Low Self Esteem in Caregiving

Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. Through overwhelming stress and obstacles, it’s easy to understand why caregivers can grow to have low self-esteem. They may think they don’t deserve praise or respite. They may even feel like they don’t matter or add value to those around them.

Let’s face it – deep down inside, you know you’re worth much more. Why keep denying it?

  1. Forget what people think about you

Everyone wants to feel loved and understood. So, what causes low self-esteem. Well, uncertainty does. If you often question other people feelings about you then we have some work to do. What other’s think is not important. What is important is how you feel about yourself. Try focusing on improving the things you don’t like about yourself instead of worrying about others.

  1. Stop comparisons

We all have a tendency to compare ourselves to others but it’s usually done with people we believe are “better than us”. In reality, no one is better than anyone else. We are running our own race in life. Excessive and unfair comparisons will bruise your self-esteem so try to avoid comparing yourself.

  1. Stop saying sorry so much

If you’ve hurt someone or made a big mistake, then it’s necessary to say “sorry” but, for some caregivers, apologizing is a way of life. You can really tell if a person isn’t confident about themselves because they will constantly say sorry – even for things that aren’t their fault. Reserve your apologies for real mistakes you’ve made.
