Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Maintaining Your Inner Peace
Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. A wise woman once said, “Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or situation to control your emotions.” Here at the Alzheimer’s Care Resource Center we couldn’t agree more. When we realize that inner peace is a choice – your choice, you can decide to be happy all the time.
Below are a couple ways to help you find your inner peace even when you’re a busy caregiver:
- Say a little prayer for inner peace
Come up with your own personal prayer or repeat after me – “Please give me the strength to endure this situation, and to find the blessings and lessons it contains. Please give me the endurance to push forward. Please guide my thought, words and actions, so that I walk in your path of peace and love. Amen.”
- Create an affirmation for inner peace
Again, you can come up with your own or you can repeat after me – “With each breath I take, I realize more inner peace. In my breathing, I feel comforted. Here, I receive answers I need. I feel deeply at peace.”
Many studies have indicated the numerous benefits of meditation, including lowering blood pressure, relieving muscle tension, releasing fears, reducing anxiety and decreasing the feelings of stress and depression. Meditation can be a great tool for caregivers. Buddha was once asked, “What have you gained from meditation?” He replied, “Nothing! However, let me tell you what I have lost: anger, anxiety, depression, insecurity, fear of old age and death.”
