Monday Mojo for Caregivers ~ Caring for Yourself

Caring for Yourself!

Welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. Most caregivers know that taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically, is probably the most important thing you can do to survive your journey of caring for a loved one. Luckily, taking care of yourself can come in many forms. For example, you could ask friends and family for help with care, you could do more things that you enjoy or you can pay for help in the home. Taking advantage of any of these actions can provide you some relief.

Some other ways you can take care of yourself include:

  • Ask for assistance or help when you need it
  • Include more healthy foods into your diet
  • Take breaks every once in a while
  • Join a caregiver support group
  • Move your body and exercise when you can
  • Keep up with your hobbies and interests

Remember that everyone needs help at times. You may feel like you need to do everything by yourself but this is just not true. Don’t feel bad or guilty when you ask for help. You may be surprised to find that friends or other family members have been wanting to help out but simply don’t know where to start. If friends or family are unwilling to help then consider joining a support group. Support groups are great because other attendees can share tips with you and provide support along the way.
