Monday Mojo for Caregivers – 6 Ways to Create Peace of Mind

Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. To family caregivers, peace of mind can seem like a distant friend. They want to reconnect but time and space stand in the way of making that happen. Today, we’re here to give you 6 tips to create peace of mind in your life. The first thing we need to do is adjust our thinking about peace of mind. Realize that peace is always available to you.

Of course, it’s not easy to choose peace when situations are crazy and things seem really tough or out-of-control. When we go through those rough patches it can feel like stress and worry are the only emotions available but that’s just not true. Here are 6 things you can try to create peace of mind!

  1. Meditation

Meditation comes in many forms. Take 5-10 minutes to do a simple seated meditation. Try breathing deeply for 2 minutes or listen to a guided mediation via YouTube. There are options for mediating. Find what works for you and try to incorporate it into your daily routine.

  1. Creativity

Engage in some art therapy. Break out the paints, crayons, markers or colored pencils and release all your feelings onto a canvas. Trust me, this is so therapeutic! Other ideas include creating a collage, taking beautiful photos or dancing the night away.

  1. Activity

Get up and get moving to get out of your head. Take a long stroll along the beach. Sing and dance to your favorite album. Go for a bike ride to the ice cream parlor. Activities are endless. Try yoga, watch a movie or hang out with friends.

  1. Solitude

Spending time alone allows us to reconnect with ourselves. Start that book you’ve been dying to read. Sit on the beach and watch the waves roll in and out or enjoy a meal at your favorite restaurant.

  1. Communication

First, become aware of your self-talk. Is it positive or negative? If it’s negative, then some work needs to be done. Keep a journal and use it to discover things about yourself. Or, talk with close friends or family members. Sometimes hearing the loving voice of our best friend can turn a bad day into a good one.

  1. Acceptance

Accept that you are only human and there will be times of stress but you can endure them. Accept that you are perfectly you and that is always enough!
