Monday Mojo for Caregivers – 10 Self Improvement Tips

Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. Are you happy with your life? Are you happy with yourself? Regardless of how you answered, you have the power to make your life better than it is today. The power to do so lies within all of us.

Here are 10 self-improvement tips to start making a better life for yourself.

1. Love Yourself
Learning to love yourself, for many, is easier said than done. To truly love yourself, you’ll need to learn how to accept who you are. Flaws and all. Tell yourself how special you are every day. Learn to recognize what talents and qualities you have that are special and believe me, we are all special in our own way.

2. Exercise
Exercising makes you look and feel great. Working up a sweat and moving can even improve your mood.

3. Eat Better
If you’re going to exercise, you might as well eat well too, right? Most times, when you’re feeling sluggish, it’s because you’ve been eating highly processed, sugary foods. Try to eat healthy just for a week. Limit your sugar intake and eat more natural foods like fruits and vegetables.

4. Set Goals
Where do you want to be in next month, or six months from now or a year from now? Don’t just write them down, but visualize these goals. Start small and just begin to visualize.

5. Learn a New Skill
Learning a new skill breeds confidence in ourselves. When we learn something new, we get excited and are eager to learn more. So what is it that you have always wanted to learn but always put off?

6. Read
Reading stimulates the mind. Turn off the TV 30 minutes before bed and read.

7. Accept Your Failures
Newsflash: you’re going to fail. You are going to fail many times in life. Failing is OK. In fact, you should embrace failure. When you stretch beyond your comfort zone, you are growing as a person. Fail, learn and grow.

8. Create a Mission Statement
You need to know who you are and what you stand for. Come up with a simple sentence that identifies who you are and what you’re about. Remind yourself of your mission statement every once in a while.

9. Surround Yourself with Positive People
The old saying, “you are the company that you keep”, is true. If you are always hanging around with unmotivated or negative people, you too will be pessimistic and unmotivated in life. On the other hand, if you hang around with successful, positive people, you too will find success and happiness.

10. Reflect
At the end of the day, reflect on what happened. Was it a good day? Even if bad things happened, find ways to spin them into something positive. Don’t let the negative thoughts hijack your mind. Be thankful for all that happened to you today and vow to be an even better person tomorrow.
