The world is full of caregivers. Spouses, children, grandchildren, friends, relatives, siblings. Often the caregiver is the only one left, or the only one willing, to take on the caregiving role when all others have ‘left the scene’ of the Alzheimer’s patient in need. Those who have walked away need to remember, strength does not walk away, but it works through situations and takes responsibility.
Millions of people worldwide are in the caregiving role. The biggest concerns caregivers feel are much more than just the basics — they worry about the quality of care their loved one is receiving. If they live at a distance, they worry about whether their loved one is living in a safe place, if they are properlty fed, dry, clean, and happy. They worry about whether their loved one is staying within a budget, taking their medications and making doctor’s appointments. Are they sleeping? Caregivers work hard to try and be a spouse, child, grandchild, etc…as well as the primary caregiver. They sacrifice time, personal pleasures and everything else imaginable because they love the Alzheimer’s patient. They are not weak. Caregivers are giants.
Remember, it takes no strength to walk away – but a mountain of strength to stay. Our strength comes from God. And He will be your strength for each and every day.
Bible Verses about strength must start and end with God. It is the power and strength that comes from God that carries us on. As Christians and caregivers, we need to surrender to the strength that God provides and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Strength is made perfect in our weakness.
