Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Ideas for Taking a Mental Health Day
Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. Everyone needs a day off once in a while, just to recuperate and refresh. Take a break from work and all the real world responsibilities that come with being a caregiver by giving yourself permission to take a mental health day.
Here are some suggestions for activities to do on your personal day:
1. Pay a visit to your friends
It is a good idea to visit your best friend and spend your mental health day together. You will have opportunities to laugh, relax and reflect together on some interesting topics. Strong relationships have a great effect on your well-being.
2. Nature heals
Go to a park in your neighborhood or take a short trip to a nature trail, because nature is a perfect medicine when you are suffering from stress. Just looking at greenery can ease your mind. It seems to be the healing for tired minds and for overburdening spirits.
3. Quiet your mind
Try meditating, mindfulness and/or prayer. Relaxation exercises and prayer can improve your state of mind and outlook on life. In fact, research shows that meditation may help you feel calm and enhance the effects of therapy.
4. Read a novel
Reading a book can take you into a different world and give you the opportunity to leave everything behind you for just a few hours. Don’t feel guilty. Enjoy your escape.
5. Work up a sweat
I’m sure you know the numerous health benefits from working up a sweat. Whether it’s working out at a gym or playing a sport, pick a physical activity that you enjoy doing, and you’ll feel so much better.
6. Take a nap
Taking naps can do wonders for your health, and you’ll notice the effects on your day off. It’ll increase your alertness, improve your memory, and improve your performance and mood. To top it all off, you’ll feel extremely relaxed and in the perfect mindset for your day off.
7. Hit the spa
Nothing is more relaxing than an entire day at the spa. Silence your cell phone and enjoy a massage for an hour. Pamper yourself. You deserve to treat yourself like a priority!
A mental health day should be designed to give your mind, body, and spirit just what it’s craving most – a break.
