Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Habits to Make You a More Successful Caregiver
Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. It doesn’t matter whether you are just starting out as a caregiver or if you have years of experience behind you – making sure you have the right attitude and approach is vital to successful caregiving. If you want to be someone who is always looking to move forward and better themselves then you need to have the kind of working habits in place that will lead to success. Here are a few examples:
Are you somebody who is happy with your current skill set, or do you actively look to improve? If you constantly look to improve, then you are exactly the sort of person who will be successful caregiver. Put yourself in training courses, learn new skills – the more you push yourself and expand your skills and knowledge, the more valuable you become to your loved one as they progress into their disease.
This means being able to prioritize between the essential and non-essential, and focusing your energies on things that are important. Too many caregivers tend to get caught up in the “nice” activities rather than things which are more critical to the patient’s care. The other advantage of prioritizing your workload is that the quality ends up being far better.
Throughout your caregiving journey, you should get in the habit of regularly assessing your personal performance. At regular intervals, analyze what you’ve done, how well you performed and what you need to do differently. By having this ability to reflect – and sometimes criticize yourself – you are making sure lessons are learned every step of the way.
