Monday Mojo for Caregivers – Finding Yourself – Rediscovering Yourself
Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. It’s easy to feel like you’ve lost a part of yourself when you dedicate so much of your time to caring for someone else. Have you ever felt that way? Many caregivers do.
It’s impossible to change history but we can rediscover ourselves. We can reclaim our seemingly lost qualities and talents. And even our very essence, our soul. It is never too late.
Here are the essential steps to help you rediscover yourself:
The first step is to rediscover who YOU are. Not you as a wife, mother, daughter or even caregiver: YOU as an individual, as a person with many years of experience and wisdom, passions and desires. This is your chance to discover what you really love today – right here, right now. You can do this in many enjoyable ways such as:
- Journal writing or blogging
- Artistic expressions – painting, drawing, writing lyrics, scrapbooking
- Joining a club or support group
- Establishing a goal and making a plan to achieve it
- Creating a new daily habit that nourishes the reclaimed aspect of yourself.
- Working with a life coach
Rediscovering yourself is going to give you the courage to step out on your own, stand your ground and get others to respect your time and space. It’s an incredibly scary and liberating process. The thing is, you don’t have to do it all at once. It starts with one tiny step and that’s the decision to rediscover what makes your heart sing and redefine a new purpose in your life.
Make a promise to yourself, right now, that you’re going to take one little step towards bringing more joy and meaning to your life today, even if it’s just spending five minutes thinking about it and writing down your ideas. Plant that seed now and enjoy the fruits that it brings in the future. You’re worth it, you deserve it and you CAN do it!
