People with memory loss often become worried, anxious and agitated when they perceive outings, appointments or visitors as unexpected or “sprung” on them. Scheduling a time each day, when your loved one is at their best, to sit at the table with a cup of coffee and a calendar, and plan out your day together, will be helpful in reducing stress. It’s also a great way to spend quality time together before the day becomes rushed and busy.
Make sure to you include your loved one as much as possible and then place the calendar in a visible location, like on the refrigerator or counter. Make a copy of the schedule or calendar that your loved one can keep in their purse or pocket.
