Hello and welcome to Monday Mojo for Caregivers. They always say, “The only consistent thing in this world is change.” Sometimes change is good and sometimes it affects us negatively. Maybe you’ve recently experienced a catastrophe, been diagnosed with an illness or suffered the loss of a loved one. No matter what the situation is, know that you are never 100% helpless, even though it might feel that way in your worst moments. Realize that you always have the power to control and change your mindset. Sometimes, just changing perspective is enough to get you back to happiness.
- You are not alone
Most people complain about the crisis or the difficult situation they’ve been put in. There’s a great quote that says, “Complaining is like a rocking chair – it gives you something to do but it gets you nowhere!” Instead of complaining, try sharing your experiences with people who are like you. The best place to do that is in a support group. People in similar crises come together to support one another.
- You’ve overcome adversity before
This can’t be the first time your hit a rough patch in life. Everyone goes through struggles throughout life. Getting through this current challenge may seem daunting now, but remind yourself of your past victories. You can do this!
- This too shall pass
Remember that quote at the beginning about change. Well it’s true. Nothing ever stays the same – not even your crisis. Maybe nothing can reverse you or a loved one’s condition, but perhaps in the near future a cure will become available. Try to think positively!
